Catalog View and Single View relation

I have an table with an primary key.
When click in the catalog view on the primary key item the
single view will by shown. So far fine.
But the single view shows me an total differed item (pk).
How is the single view and the catalog view joined.
Is the a need to populate the pk into the single view ?
