Cannot Edit and Save any database

I cannot save any edits I made. Even without editing just Save & CLose nothing happens. The Table field turns red. I am using joomla 1.7. I tried it with a new installation 1.6.3. and then upgrade 1.6.6. Nothing happens. I can create a new database though.

no changes on default database can be made

It seems that there are issues with the IE8.
Using Google Chrome on the same computer (running on Windows XP Professional) there would not be no problem saving and editing the joodb catalog/singleview/print templates.
No problem also with IE9 running on Windows 7 Basic Home.
